If I cancel an item on online product selling websites like Amazon or Flipkart, why do they take such a long time, generally, 6 to 8 days for refunding the money?

Hmm.. Buddy it's depend on two things.

First the system flipkart/amazon/e-com. has,

Second the bank system (bank clearance time we can say).

So it most likely take 1 to 2 days to refunding, but as per the system it will take 6 to 7 days, but now you gonna getting 4 to 5 days and they are improving systems day by day so you might be get your refund in one business.

So what is systems? : System is the process where your money is transferred from one place to another place.

First we gonna talk about amazon/flipkart/e-com system :

In this things the process they are raising your fund from they portal to your bank is right now is 1 to 2 days, they has one internal blueprint that they are working. Blueprint like I can say like PayPal. So they has automatic database where all cancellation ordered are taking care. Means when you put cancel order button this hint to and take your process to there database storage. So let's assume the database working time is morning 10 to night 10 and you cancelled order time is night 11 so you took one extra day for cancellation your order hence you will get your fund one extra day. So it's basically work on there time clock.

Now about bank system :

Bank now day are going strong and strong but in this system they still stuck but they are working on it but as per me they can't make it more strong because they totally depend on RBI plus they have to invest lots of money on R&D to improve there systems hence they failed. So about bank system it usually take 2 to 3 day but first they e-com system take a permission from bank for sending money to your account hence it took one full day, so one day here. And 2nd day your money has been withdrawn in your bank not your account and 3rd it is withdrawn in your account and 4th day it's blink to your account. It might take extra more 1 to 2 days to getting to your account because of banks working time.

So that How it work.
